Capacity Assessments
Decision-making capacity (often shortened to “capacity”) refers to an adult’s ability to make decisions about matters that concern them. These include decisions about medical treatment, care services, place of residence, financial and legal matters. Adults are presumed to have capacity unless proven otherwise, however sometimes it is necessary to formally assess capacity. Geriatricians have expertise in capacity assessment and preparing reports when required for legal and other purposes.
